Haute off the Press: Fashion News

Fall Haute Couture Shows

The Fall/Winter Haute Couture Fashion Shows are in full swing and this year’s stellar collections include a little something for everyone. Whimsical, reminiscent accents are challenged by grungy, sharp silhuoettes that make for one of the most exquisite seasons we’ve experienced so far.

Here’s a quick breakdown of this year’s chicest collections:

Fendi: To commemorate its 90th year anniversary, Fendi whisked their guests to Rome for a majestic show that took place at the Dolce Vita. The magical collection paid homage to fairytale nostalgia with no shortage of lace, crochet and delicate appliqués.

Givenchy: This year, Givenchy’s haute couture collection was all about the fine details. To truly showcase the intricate pleating, sequins and embroidery of this season’s sleek pieces, Riccardo Tisci ditched the runway to give womenswear clients the chance to see the garments up close and personal.

Valentino: The 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death was the key inspiration behind this season’s collection, and it showed. The renaissance inspired ruffs, bodices, and puff sleeves featured in the garments were marvelous enough to inspire a romantic haiku.

Couture labels who showcased their newest designs ranged from Viktor & Rolf, Jean Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab, Maison Margiela, J. Mendel, Christian Dior and more. Out of them all, Giambattista Valli’s show was undoubtedly an HL editor favorite. Check out a clip of it below:

Jenny from the block just can’t stop #winning in 2016. Her newest collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti, scheduled to hit stores in January 2017,  only adds to the list of major endorsements and milestones she’s achieved in her massive career to date. Giuseppe for Jennifer Lopez will include footwear and accessories with prices ranging from $795 to $1995. Summer-ready styles will include open-toe booties, bombshell snake skin gladiator heels (pictured above) and even some bad ass wedge sneakers.

H&M and Kenzo Collaborate for an Insane Collection

H&M is walking on the wild side in their newest collaboration with Japanese brand Kenzo. Animal prints, wild colors and mixed textures are all over this collection, making it one of H&M’s most daring and lively collaborations we’ve seen. The innovation and forward thinking of this collection goes far past the designs, with young influencers, icons and thought leaders like Amy Sall, Juliana Huxtable, Oko Ebombo and Isamaya Ffrench modeling the garments. The collection is set to release on November 3rd.

LVMH Sells Donna Karan International  to G-III Apparel Group

LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE made the unexpected and unusual decision to sell New York-based label Donna Karan to apparel company G-III Apparel Group Ltd for $650 million. After continuous years of stagnant growth for the Donna Karan and DKNY lines, the brand has faced a number of struggles to remain afloat, especially after the resigning of its founder. Even efforts to veer away from the high end sector toward a mass market approach haven’t managed to reignite the brand’s momentum. But with the redirection toward more affordable price points makes  G-III Apparel Group an ideal match for the brand that is likely to result in a surge of new opportunity.

Ms. Fenty and Puma just released the essential Fall edition of the best-selling Creepers. The camouflage patterned sneakers expectedly sold out in minutes on July 28th. The batch of best-selling colors that she re-stocked on the same day also vanished from stores almost immediately. There’s no word of a restock of the new camouflage design, but if there is one we’ll be one of the many fans scrambling to get a last minute pair.
