Old Hollywood Beauty Secrets

Although many of our favorite viral beauty trends  are accredited to the Kardashians and MUA bloggers, many of them are actually age-old beauty secrets that Hollywood icons have sworn by for decades. These little tricks can do wonders for not only elevating your makeup game, but ensuring that your makeup lasts all day long. Take a stroll through these timeless old Hollywood beauty secrets that still work like a charm today!

  1. Double your mascara as an eyeliner.

Invest in a good mascara that doesn’t dry out easily so that you can double it up as an eyeliner. Before each stroke through your eyelashes, latch the brush on your eyelid for a second or two so that the mascara can create a thin line as you go. This method requires careful handling and meticulous detail, but with some practice it can be a great way of saving some cash on cosmetics. Another great method to try is gliding the brush gently along the lash line after applying mascara to the lashes. Note that if it’s a cat eye kind of night, a good eyeliner applicator is still your best bet!

      2. Use your blush as lip liner.

Sounds crazy right?! But totally works. Slightly dampen a small sized brush, dip it in your blush, then outline your lips or cover your lips before applying your lipstick. This makes sure that your lip color stays on all day, without having to buy an extra product!

      3. Double your lipstick as cream blush.

Have a lipstick color that you love since it goes perfectly with your skin? Good news: now it can double as a blush. Simply press your finger on the tip of your lipstick, rub it a bit between your fingers a bit, then swipe across your cheek in the same direction you would apply your usual blush. You can still use your usual blush on top of this to create a minimalistic contour on the face, as long as the two colors mesh well together.

      4. Use Vaseline or Lip Gloss to keep your brows in place.

Dip a fresh disposable mascara brush into a clear lip gloss or tub of vaseline and brush upward through your brow after applying your usual brow essentials. This will keep them in place all night long and prevent makeup from fading throughout the day

       5. Change the shape of your face by shading your hairline.

In this case, throwing shade is a good thing. Although this modern day trick is commonly cited as one of the fundamentals of contouring, we can’t emphasize enough the difference it can create on your overall look! By using darker shades in your contour palette of your choice to add dark shadows around your hairline, you add dimension and structure to the face. Another old school way to try this trick: use a stiff brush to stipple an eyeshadow two shades lighter than your hair into the hairline. Then, lightly coat the baby hair at the hairline with a tinted brow gel. Magic!
